“They’re all dying. Where is Johnny Carson? Bring back Johnny. It made you appreciate the greatness of Johnny Carson.” What is Donald Trump but stumping priest? Promotionalist color commentator?
Is it funny or apt we tend, regardless of politic, to hold against Barack Obama the use of drone strikes and government-fueling murder than Donald John Trump?
Cops and Protestors.
Go read it now?
I cannot tell if you have read it, yet, or not, so play pretend. With me.
As The Invisibles progresses, they admit that most of the conspiratorial “wars” which are proposed, promoted, pushed are, in truth, not wars, at all, but “rescue missions.” But, is that not what they tell us when they pull in kids and the poor to pilot bombs for nations rich in oil or metals or slave labor? They are always rescue missions? Always a saving.
What does Boy say, in The Invisibles? About saving?
That is “something only misers do”?
Did the Bush Administration end the TRUTH? The second Bush Admin? The Obama Presidency? The inauguration of Trump? The annunciation of Yeshua? Camerlengo acting sovereign? 1922? 2212? 1233 BCE?
Temporality, like truth, is complicated by the comfort we find in complexifying them. The more we can get graphs, have maths, read theories, apply practices, the easier it is to live in time and space. Even, at the same time.
Do you know how hard it must be on a body to live in space and in time? And, not in succession?
I really have been thinking about Mary Marvel’s matronage, lately, the gods, nymphs & people who give her the blessing of their gifts. These have changed over years and successive takes by different creative teams, but in the beginning Mary got her superpowers and talents from Selene, Hippolyta, Ariadne, Zephyrus, Aurora and Minerva. Selene was a last minute substitution before Mary Marvel’s first appearance, and Otto Binder initially planned on using Sappho.
Imagine those are your patron gods. Your friend deities. Your blessing matrons.
Ariadne is switched, eventually, for Artemis, and Aurora for Aphrodite, in later comics, but is that as good? What does it mean to switch Ariadne – daughter of Minos, the real escape artist of the Labyrinth & Minotaur, originally probably a snake goddess, the lover of Theseus and Dionysus, weaver, craftswoman, artist, possibly a spider goddess – with Artemis, the Greek goddess of wilderness, hunt and chastity?
Artemis is a moon deity, like Selene, and sometimes in story or belief, she is Selene.
What would that mean?
The consort of Dionysus, replaced by another lunar goddess, the deification of chastity?
The Invisibles embraces vodou, buddhism, jungian and reichian and grofian psychological theories, mystic Christianity and transhumanist ideas, in that a person is not necessarily one being, or one mind or soul. And, one soul or being might not be one body or person. Like Mary Marvel or her brother, Captain Marvel, like Jesus and the Holy Trinity, a person or personage could have five beings or five minds, a mind can be divided or simultaneous in several people, bodies may not have souls, souls might disembody. The universe, itself, is both a group and singular soul-self, and not.
When someone in the comic is angry or is enamored, very early on it is suggested they more accurately, “have an anger upon them,” and then in essence, they/we have a deification or personification of anger or love or hope or peace, the moon, the sky, trees, fish, the future in or on or with us. But, too, we can be anger. We can be love. What a complicated thing, that embodying, that being could be.
To be in time and space at once is, maybe, to be things. To embody a thingness.
A popular conceit of Gnostic literature is that idea-complexes become (a kind of) people, and The Invisibles combines this with Grant Morrison’s ideas, ever-expanding and developing, but found laid out fairly well in their Doom Patrol with Richard Case, that embracing a multiple-mindedness is a way to organize and settle our own impulses and thoughts.
Some of the Preston Nichols/Peter Moon books on the Montauk conspiracy promote the idea that physical actuation is (sometimes) a rendering of ideological or philosophical notions into matter or biology. Among others, they float a notion that parts of the human body are not mirrored in symbols or graphs, but exist to reflect or keep us abreast of what the symbols or maps represent. By having genitalia or eyes or mouths, we might be physiological maps, physiological representations, documenting real things.
More, less, or no more bizarre than standard Christian doctrines?
These can become fodder for disenfranchising powers, for abusing or limiting, along with delimiting, specific groups or types of person. As a “nega-verse” “mirror universe” version of the Ong’s Hat conspiracies, the Montauk miasma can encourage an embrace of sadism and schadenfreude which includes dehumanizing women, minorities, as well as men (boys) and white people (an underreported victim).
They are playing games, the authors of those conspiracies. They are games.
Aren’t all games better if they are multiplayer?
Don’t you still have to play yourself?
